Founded in 2014, publishing association Krug knjiga was initially conceived as a way to promote literature from the so-called Victorian era, as well as to create a cooperation network with other cultural institutions in the country and abroad. After the first few years of existance, when the Association published ten titles per year, the Association also shifted towards publishing more contemporary titles by less known authors and from less popular languages, in order to offer more variety on Croatian book market, mostly inundated by Anglo-American titles. At the same time, the Association decided to also publish books by local authors and offer help in the translation of their work and their publication abroad.

Until today, the Association has published more than fifty titles, with the initial plan of ten titles per year growing in recent years to almost double due to public interest. Currently, there are numerous titles in preparation, with particular focus on less known literatures such as Chinese, Indian, Australian etc.

All books are translated by eminent Croatian translators, with design and illustration covered by equally eminent local illustrators, in order to provide the public with the best possible editions. Most books published until now received hard cover editions, but currently, the Association is also considering producing paperback editions that would be more affordable for the general public. All of the Association’s titles are available in public libraries, with choice titles also offered through independent bookstores, which we consider extremely important.
